Adrien is our Team Rwanda’s first rider to qualify for the Olympics. Adrien is also the first Rwandan to qualify in mountain biking for the Olympics. He will be representing his country in 2012 in London.
During the 1994 genocide in Rwanda, Adrien lost six of his brothers. His story was featured in a recent Sports Illustrated South Africa article.
Adrien is a strong rider with great endurance. He received his first bike from his Uncle Emmanuel. His first race was the Tour of Rwanda where he finished 6th. Adrien finished 2nd in the Tour of Rwanda in 2006 and 2007. In 2008, he was offered a pro contract to race with MTN Energade, now MTN Qhubeka and is still racing for MTN.
In February 2011, he placed 4th in the Mountain Bike Continental Championships in Stellenbosch, South Africa securing a spot in the 2012 Olympics and in March 2011 his partner and Adrien won Best African at the 2011 Cape Epic in South Africa.
